UNH Series clutches are spring-wrapped, unidirectional or overrunning clutches. They are noted for their high torque transmission capacity relative to their small size. The clutch consists of collinear input and output drums, each enveloped by a common helical spring. When the input drum is rotated in the direction where the spring self-energizes, (CW or CCW), the spring couples the output to the input with high torque transmission capability. In the reverse direction, the output decouples and experiences only a slight drag torque, produced by the spring riding on the input drum.
